It is all about the Party! – Dance, shake and groove away calories in a fun dance style aerobic class that is designed to be a party! It is for everyone and it is fun, fun fun!!!

Born in Europe, I grew up with a father who is a Karate instructor and lives for a healthy lifestyle, causing my passion for fitness to begin at a very young age. Throughout my life, I played a number of sports and like my father found myself with a love for Karate, ultimately earning my black belt and teaching classes. I absolutely LOVED instructing but after an ACL/MCL tear, I had to take a break. I moved to Edmonton from Medicine Hat to attend the University of Alberta where I earned my Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2010. After moving to Edmonton, I was introduced to Zumba by a friend. Seeing how much fun it was, I decided that I really wanted to teach this class. In October of 2010, I got certified and have been enjoying every minute of being an instructor. I plan on becoming a Fitness Instructor Specialist in the near future in hopes of expanding my class portfolio. When I am not teaching Zumba, I work in Human Resources full time

6:35 pm - 7:05 pm

A combination of boxing and kickboxing movements using easy to follow choreography. This class may incorporate kickboxing equipment such as heavy bags, gloves and targets to improve technique. This class is a sure thing to tone up your upper body and abdominals.

I have been with SPA LADY since 1993, as a group fitness instructor and now recently club coordinator of our Century Park location. What motivates me is our members; their energy, their ability to overcome setbacks and to take that next step to their goal(s). Whatever that goal may be, I want to be there to help them achieve it. If it is just to step foot into one of our classes, that can be huge for them. Once they are in they are hooked. I am a better instructor because of them, our members challenge me to grow and develop my skills as an educator of fitness. I attend workshops, courses and education days to bring new information and workouts to them. That way we are all growing together in this industry.

I have been trained to teach a variety of styles. I enjoy teaching all of them; high/low, step, knockout, strength, bootcamp, Pilates, yoga, Zumba, metabolic training, and HIIT. They are all different, unique, and challenging in their own way. I want the members to walk away from my classes feeling good and wanting more.

In 2003, I graduated from Grant MacEwan for Massage Therapy. I enjoy learning and understanding the body that I had to go back to school. Since then I have been working as a RMT in the west end.

I am very passionate about fitness, lifestyle and the role that I play. I love it!

It is all about the Party! – Dance, shake and groove away calories in a fun dance style aerobic class that is designed to be a party! It is for everyone and it is fun, fun fun!!!

My journey with fitness was planted early in life - I began gymnastics when I was the tender age of 5 and continued in competitive gym for many years, into University! I was also keen to try other sports along the way, and being game for anything, I was a \'jock\' in high school, in addition to gymnastics. I was drawn to physical fitness and rehabilitation aspects, so I studied Adapted Physical Education and then on to a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the Unviersity of Alberta, graduating in 1991. In the past 2 years, I continued to enjoy fitness in all areas and now that my children have become more independent, I began weight training, swimming, biking and running for triathlons and marathons with prodding from a friend. In addition to this, I tried some group fitness classes...Hot yoga, and most notably... I fell in love with Zumba! The exercise that not only moves your body but works your face too! Smiling!! It was a good fit for me, since I love to dance and move and sweat! So I pursued certification in Zumba Basic 1 and 2, ZumbaGold and AquaZuzmba! this lead to becoming a Certified Group Fitness Instructor through Can Fit Pro as well! What a busy year and a half this has been! I absolutely love teaching group fitness and took on teaching iron Reps and Step interval - I am from the aerobic era (dating myself) and love step of any kind! Fitness completes the circle of health and well being, which is the greatest gift one can give to oneself! I look forward to being a part of your fitness journey!

It is all about the Party! – Dance, shake and groove away calories in a fun dance style aerobic class that is designed to be a party! It is for everyone and it is fun, fun fun!!!

I have always loved being actively involved in anything that keeps me energized and busy. I began hearing from different sources about this Zumba thing, that it was fun and a great workout. So I registered in my very first class in mid 2010 at my local fitness facility. I had so much fun & was so impressed with my instructor that I wanted her job. I shortly thereafter participated in my first Basic Zumba Instructors Course which has since led me to training in four specialties courses (Zumba Gold, Aqua Zumba, Zumba Toning, & Zumbatomic). I love sharing my enthusiasm with class participants & feed from their excitement. I look forward to seeing you out on the studio floor!

It is all about the Party! – Dance, shake and groove away calories in a fun dance style aerobic class that is designed to be a party! It is for everyone and it is fun, fun fun!!!

My name is Karen and I teach Zumba. A few years ago a friend said I should try this Zumba class I had heard about. I was doubtful, did not think it would be much of a workout. But, I decided to give it a try and after one class I was hooked! A few months later, I decided to become an instructor.

Having been involved in dance all my life, it seemed like a natural fit for me. I began my dance training as a child with tap and jazz for several years, Ukrainian and Highland for two days (did not care much for those). I began to feel real passion for dance when I studied Hawaiian and Polynesian dance as a teenager and after twelve years, I was part of a small professional dance troupe. Sadly, my co-dancers decided to start families and our group broke up after a few years. Several years later I discovered Middle Eastern dance and was hooked all over again. I have been studying now for over ten years and dance professionally at private parties, weddings and events. I have also trained in the martial arts for fourteen years and currently hold a third degree black belt in Uechi-Ryu Karate and I have been an instructor at Neil Dunnigan Karate School for seven of those years. To keep me busy, I have trained in and completed two sprint triathlons, and four marathons. I finally decided it was time for me to share my passion for both dance and fitness with the wonderful ladies at the gym where I spent many of my years as a member. I am now a certified group fitness leader with the AFLCA and hold Zumba certifications in Basic 1, 2, Gold and Toning. I also enjoy stepping in to sub Knockout, Iron Reps and Step. I believe that fitness should be accessible to, and fun for everyone, and I encourage everyone to dream of the success you want and take those brave first steps to make it happen.

I was born on the beautiful island of New Providence in the Bahamas, and lived there until I was 21 years old. Dance has always been an important part of my life; however, I did not begin formal training until the age of sixteen. I was trained in ballet and jazz, and took workshops in West African dance at the Bahamas National Dance School. As a student at the National Dance School I acquired the technique and discipline need to become a professional dancer. One year after enrolling at the NDS, I was accepted as a member of the National Dance Company. A few years later I got my first job as a performer at Super Clubs Breezes Resort on Nassau. This was also the start of circus career. Breezes Resort has a flying trapeze, and I was one of the original Circus Team members, I danced in the nightly variety shows and taught juggling, trampoline, and trapeze lessons to our resort guests for three years. With the hope of becoming a featured dancer in one of the shows on New York's infamous Broadway, I resigned my position at Breezes Resort and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to fulfill my dream. Summer of 1997, I auditioned and was accepted as a member of Philadanco's apprenticeship company (Philadelphia Dance Company). Unfortunately this would be the end of my dance career. Philadanco's apprenticeship company members were not paid and the class schedule was very strict and time consuming, so I was left with the choice of following my dance dream, or finding employment to support myself. I chose to find a job and enrolled at Montgomery County Community College, spring 1998. After earning an Associates Degree at MCCC, I transferred to Temple University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in January, 2003. My degree made me very employable, but each job I took did not fill an emptiness I felt on the inside. January of 2010, I decided to pursue a vision I had some years earlier. That vision was to create my own dance fitness workout. Acting upon the advice of a sister in-law I registered for Can-Fit Pro's Fitness Instructor Certification course, and was certified as a Fitness Instructor Specialist May 18, 2010. In the months leading up to my fitness instructor course I took some Zumba classes for inspiration, because it was also dance inspired. Shortly after I took those Zumba classes I was informed of a Zumba Certification coming to Edmonton, so I registered, but by this time was very skeptical. On May 1, 2010, my skepticism was transformed into fulfillment, passion, and love during my Zumba Basic course with Robyn Holm. Robyn's passion, professionalism and skills brought me to tears a few times during the course, and filled an emptiness I was carrying for 13 years. After my Zumba course on May 1, I not only received the inspiration to fulfill my vision, but I left as a Certified Zumba Instructor and a new man.

It is all about the Party! – Dance, shake and groove away calories in a fun dance style aerobic class that is designed to be a party! It is for everyone and it is fun, fun fun!!!

I took my first Zumba steps in the winter of 2010 and it was love at first shake! That May, I completed my instructor training, and the rest is history.

While I have taught other class styles, Zumba is my favorite. I love watching the smiles on participants faces as they move with the music and express a little something about themselves that gets hidden in daily life.

As an instructor, my goal is to create an environment where participants can freely express who they are through the movements, without worrying about perfectly executing each step, or imitating the flava of their neighbour. My philosophy is if participants are smiling and sweating, then class is a success.

In addition to being licensed in Zumba and Zumbatomics, I am certified as a Group Fitness Instructor through the AFLCA and am studying movement through the Spacial Dynamics Institute.

See you on the dance floor!

9:30 am - 10:30 am

This class brings pilates mat based exercises to our group fitness studios. You will work the abdominals and spinal muscles whilst improving awareness of cervical, scapula, rib and pelvic placement and the role of the breath. In addition to improving body awareness, this class will help to increase core strength, posture, body alignment and flexibility. All of our instructors have been trained in STOTT™ pilates.

Please be sure to bring your own exercise mat to class as we do not provide them.

I love it!
