30mins of great cardio work suitable for all levels of fitness. A range of training styles can be used (hi/lo, knockout, athletic, step, etc.) but the main focus is Cardio, Cardio, Cardio!
I have been with SPA LADY since 1993, as a group fitness instructor and now recently club coordinator of our Century Park location. What motivates me is our members; their energy, their ability to overcome setbacks and to take that next step to their goal(s). Whatever that goal may be, I want to be there to help them achieve it. If it is just to step foot into one of our classes, that can be huge for them. Once they are in they are hooked. I am a better instructor because of them, our members challenge me to grow and develop my skills as an educator of fitness. I attend workshops, courses and education days to bring new information and workouts to them. That way we are all growing together in this industry.
I have been trained to teach a variety of styles. I enjoy teaching all of them; high/low, step, knockout, strength, bootcamp, Pilates, yoga, Zumba, metabolic training, and HIIT. They are all different, unique, and challenging in their own way. I want the members to walk away from my classes feeling good and wanting more.
In 2003, I graduated from Grant MacEwan for Massage Therapy. I enjoy learning and understanding the body that I had to go back to school. Since then I have been working as a RMT in the west end.
I am very passionate about fitness, lifestyle and the role that I play. I love it!
It is all about the Party! – Dance, shake and groove away calories in a fun dance style aerobic class that is designed to be a party! It is for everyone and it is fun, fun fun!!!

A weight-training workout using a barbell and plates in the group fitness studio. It achieves maximum results and is the quickest way to get in shape. Our experienced instructors will focus on technique for safety and use their dynamic energy to power you through this amazing full body workout.
I was born on the beautiful island of New Providence in the Bahamas, and lived there until I was 21 years old. Dance has always been an important part of my life; however, I did not begin formal training until the age of sixteen. I was trained in ballet and jazz, and took workshops in West African dance at the Bahamas National Dance School. As a student at the National Dance School I acquired the technique and discipline need to become a professional dancer. One year after enrolling at the NDS, I was accepted as a member of the National Dance Company. A few years later I got my first job as a performer at Super Clubs Breezes Resort on Nassau. This was also the start of circus career. Breezes Resort has a flying trapeze, and I was one of the original Circus Team members, I danced in the nightly variety shows and taught juggling, trampoline, and trapeze lessons to our resort guests for three years. With the hope of becoming a featured dancer in one of the shows on New York's infamous Broadway, I resigned my position at Breezes Resort and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to fulfill my dream. Summer of 1997, I auditioned and was accepted as a member of Philadanco's apprenticeship company (Philadelphia Dance Company). Unfortunately this would be the end of my dance career. Philadanco's apprenticeship company members were not paid and the class schedule was very strict and time consuming, so I was left with the choice of following my dance dream, or finding employment to support myself. I chose to find a job and enrolled at Montgomery County Community College, spring 1998. After earning an Associates Degree at MCCC, I transferred to Temple University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in January, 2003. My degree made me very employable, but each job I took did not fill an emptiness I felt on the inside. January of 2010, I decided to pursue a vision I had some years earlier. That vision was to create my own dance fitness workout. Acting upon the advice of a sister in-law I registered for Can-Fit Pro's Fitness Instructor Certification course, and was certified as a Fitness Instructor Specialist May 18, 2010. In the months leading up to my fitness instructor course I took some Zumba classes for inspiration, because it was also dance inspired. Shortly after I took those Zumba classes I was informed of a Zumba Certification coming to Edmonton, so I registered, but by this time was very skeptical. On May 1, 2010, my skepticism was transformed into fulfillment, passion, and love during my Zumba Basic course with Robyn Holm. Robyn's passion, professionalism and skills brought me to tears a few times during the course, and filled an emptiness I was carrying for 13 years. After my Zumba course on May 1, I not only received the inspiration to fulfill my vision, but I left as a Certified Zumba Instructor and a new man.

I\'ve always had a passion to keep moving. Whether it is dance, sports or a combination of both, sitting still makes me go crazy. A moving body is a happier body and this is the philosophy that I enjoy bringing to my clients and classes. I graduated in 2004 from the University of Alberta with a degree in Physical Education and an advanced certificate in Athletic Therapy and since then have helped many athletes from all performance levels to get back into their sports. I now enjoy bringing that same knowledge to the general public because I believe that inactivity is an injury waiting to be rehabilitated. I love seeing the smiling faces after a class or workout knowing that they have just helped their bodies be healthier and happier and I couldn\'t be more excited knowing that I was a part of that.

A combination of boxing and kickboxing movements using easy to follow choreography. This class may incorporate kickboxing equipment such as heavy bags, gloves and targets to improve technique. This class is a sure thing to tone up your upper body and abdominals.
I have a passion for health and wellness and have been involved in some kind of physical activity whether it be dancing, sports or kickboxing since I was 3 yrs old. I started with Spa Lady in 1998 as a trainer on the floor which then evolved into becoming a member in which I was a regular to all the classes, and then eventually a group fitness instructor in 2004. I trained at Panther gym in boxing and kickboxing for over 7 years and now I specialize in the kickboxing classes at Spa Lady but also teach Sprint and Combo classes as well. I have been involved with Spa Lady for so long because I truly believe that it is a wonderful facility, the staff are fabulous, the quality of instructors are truly amazing and I absolutely love the members!
In my life outside of Spa Lady, I am the proud mother of 2 beautiful girls named Atya and Xenya and a wife to my super supportive husband Ian. I have been a nurse specializing in psychiatry for over 7 years until I retired from my nursing career in September 2011 to be at home with my girls and to run my business full time promoting the 90 Day Health Challenge and nutrition counseling. Outside of work and teaching I also captain a volleyball team in the winter months and coach and captain an ultimate frisbee team during the summer. Physical activity and promoting health will always be a part of my life and I am committed to continuing my education as an instructor so that I can continue to deliver fun and dynamic classes to my amazing Spa Lady students!

I am a firm believer in keeping fit & healthy. I have been a Spa Lady member for about 20 years and have always been very active enjoying many sports and activities, from water skiing to downhill skiing and swimming to biking, I'll try anything that makes me move. Last year I put three sports together & competed in the World Masters Triathlon event (swim 1.5K, bike 40K, run 10K). I came home with "GOLD".
I have been teaching group fitness since Sept 2000. I started teaching bootcamp (AT) then moved on to teach, BFL, Step, SSP, and am presently teaching Sprint Circuit, Spa Ball & Body Shop at the Heritage location. I love teaching group fitness. To see the smiles on your faces as you push yourself to your limit or as you master a new move, and as we cool down the look of accomplishment and satisfaction that fills the room. To hear your stories of weight loss, strength gained, the smaller sizes you are wearing, how much better you sleep, you feel healthier, you eat better, how much you LOVE coming to classes and most of all, that you feel so good about yourself. If you feel good about yourself everything else falls into place.
Members asked "what keeps me motivated and where do I get my energy." -I don't take my body & health for granted. It is up to me to keep it healthy and active no one else can do it for me. (At 5 yrs old a bike accident should have killed me, Dr.s amazed at recovery, developed severe asthma at 20yrs old refused to give in to it, kept active, 15yrs later Dr.s can's believe remission.
-Attending fitness & nutrition conferences/courses, keeps me fresh & up to date on whats new.
-I can't stop getting older, but I can choose to stay young, mind, body & soul.
**YOU, the members, your enthusiasm, energy and smiles. The more you want the more I will give. There is much truth in the saying "energy breeds energy". Just come to one of my classes, you'll see!!

30 minutes of choreography with High Intensity Intervals to create a workout for your brain and your body!
My journey with fitness was planted early in life - I began gymnastics when I was the tender age of 5 and continued in competitive gym for many years, into University! I was also keen to try other sports along the way, and being game for anything, I was a \'jock\' in high school, in addition to gymnastics. I was drawn to physical fitness and rehabilitation aspects, so I studied Adapted Physical Education and then on to a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the Unviersity of Alberta, graduating in 1991. In the past 2 years, I continued to enjoy fitness in all areas and now that my children have become more independent, I began weight training, swimming, biking and running for triathlons and marathons with prodding from a friend. In addition to this, I tried some group fitness classes...Hot yoga, and most notably... I fell in love with Zumba! The exercise that not only moves your body but works your face too! Smiling!! It was a good fit for me, since I love to dance and move and sweat! So I pursued certification in Zumba Basic 1 and 2, ZumbaGold and AquaZuzmba! this lead to becoming a Certified Group Fitness Instructor through Can Fit Pro as well! What a busy year and a half this has been! I absolutely love teaching group fitness and took on teaching iron Reps and Step interval - I am from the aerobic era (dating myself) and love step of any kind! Fitness completes the circle of health and well being, which is the greatest gift one can give to oneself! I look forward to being a part of your fitness journey!

Alia is a yoga instructor at Spa Lady, and loves to share her passion for yoga with everyone. She took her first yoga class after her children were born as a way to keep in shape, and continued for years attending weekly classes and worked on growing her personal practise. As her children grew she knew someday she would need to go back to work, and needed to find something she loved. Alia trained hard and completed her 200 hours Hatha Yoga Teacher Training. She now teaches a couple times a week at different Spa Lady\'s around Edmonton. She thanks everyone who comes to class for giving yoga a chance. Namaste.

A flowing yoga class that links postures together to create sequences. You will move smoothly from one posture to another, to create a vinyasa flow of movement.
I have been teaching yoga for 3 years and experiencing it for over a decade. I love it. Yoga allows me to step back from all the distractions of life and simply experience how I am moving, breathing, and feeling emotionally. We all experience yoga differently and falling out of tree pose, laughing, frustration, and sweat are as much part of the experience as floating up into your first handstand and touching your toes to give your spine some space. Yoga is an exploration of your body, your breath, and your thoughts so there is no rush and yoga journal isn\'t snapping a photo in class, so explore. I teach an integration of strengthening, balancing, opening, and relaxing postures along with breathing techniques to cultivate a harmonious and balanced body and mind. My agenda is to make yoga accessible to every body in the room and share the importance of being yourself in every moment and every pose. You live in your body every single moment and how you feel physically directly effects how you you live your life. As you gain strength, fluidity, and softness in the body you will bring that strength, fluidity, and softness off the mat and into each day and each interaction. As B.K.S Iyengar has said \"When health was not there, what can I think of philosophy?\" Freedom in the body allows freedom of breath and freedom of mind. Bing!

Teaching Zumba Fitness is the perfect combination of my favorite things: Latin Dancing and Fitness! I have been dancing since age 5 in my native Colombia and having the opportunity to share some of my culture through music, fitness and fun is a wonderful feeling to share with my students. What I enjoy the most is, after an intense class full of salsa and sweat, watching my students smiling, laughing and feeling less like they worked out and more like they were at a Latin party! I hope to see you in class!

I have a combined Bachelor of Education and Physical Education degree from the University of Alberta. For 10 years I have taught with Edmonton Public Schools teaching mostly junior high and high school students science and physical education. My love for physical activity began at a very early age as I have always lived an active lifestyle. Growing up I was involved in many sports such as running, basketball and swimming. I used to teach swimming lessons and after becoming a teacher I coached a lot of sports such as x-country running, volleyball, basketball and track and field to both girls and boys. My love for group exercise classes began when I was in university working as a lifeguard. I would often go to the shallow or deep water aqua-fit classes after my lifeguard shift. I soon became AFLCA certified as an aquatic exercise instructor and taught that for 5 years. I love being busy and challenging myself. I have ran many 5 km and 10 km runs and completed two half marathons. I enjoy golfing with my husband and participate in a ladies golf league. While teaching at Lillian Osborne High school I wanted to teach group exercise classes as a part-time job. So, I became certified through the AFLCA. After having my first child I mostly want to stay home with my daughter. So, I now substitute teach for Edmonton Public Schools and am excited to teach at Spa Lady to improve my own fitness and help others with theirs. I did my apprenticeship program with Spa Lady and was inspired by all the incredible instructors at Spa Lady and wanted to be just like them. I am a very friendly and enthusiastic person. Come on out to my Celebrity Body class for fun, friendship and a great work-out!
Combine step and weights to create a great all over workout. The step will be easy to follow but intense (with low intensity options for beginners) and the strength section will tone your muscles and improve your shape. Perfect for everyone.
I am an AFLCA certified Group Fitness Instructor with a specialization in Step and Portable Equipment. As a long-time group fitness participant, I attended classes to be challenged by the instructor and motivated by the energy generated to reach new fitness levels. I loved being challenged by the creative, up-to-date exercises that helped me understand more about the mechanics of my body. I came to have fun and try something new. As your instructor, it is my goal to generate classes that motivate, challenge and educate you. As my participants, I know you will do the same for me. I have an educational background in Disability Studies and currently work part-time with young children and their families. I am also a full time mother of two young children. I love to travel to Saskatchewan (to visit my family) as well as other exotic places, take pictures, enjoy time with friends and family, try new restaurants, and look on the bright side. I am thrilled to be part of the SpaLady team.

I have always loved being actively involved in anything that keeps me energized and busy. I began hearing from different sources about this Zumba thing, that it was fun and a great workout. So I registered in my very first class in mid 2010 at my local fitness facility. I had so much fun & was so impressed with my instructor that I wanted her job. I shortly thereafter participated in my first Basic Zumba Instructors Course which has since led me to training in four specialties courses (Zumba Gold, Aqua Zumba, Zumba Toning, & Zumbatomic). I love sharing my enthusiasm with class participants & feed from their excitement. I look forward to seeing you out on the studio floor!

Please be sure to bring your own exercise mat to class as we do not provide them.
My journey into yoga stemmed from a childhood love of dance and movement. From the first class I was invited to take, I was hooked. My body awareness heightened and my type-A personality riddled with anxiety drastically mellowed as my practice deepened. I have learned and continue to learn so much about acceptance, love and mindfulness through practice. Yoga has brought about a sense of peace and enlightenment that I simply could not access before.
I completed my 200-hour YogaWorks teacher training in May of 2012 under the magnificent Catherine Munro. I continue to develop and hone my skills by regularly attending workshops so that I can continue to bring new energy and enthusiasm to my students.
