Any Bodybuilding, Fitness, or Figure competition is one of the most amazing, self-transforming experiences for the mind, body, and soul. It is a discipline of “double daily” exercising and grueling dieting, up until the very last day. It is not easy, and if it were it wouldn’t be a competition.
You would not compete for money or material items, but what you do sign up for is a fantastic fit new you. I am inspired by others with similar interests, a common vision, and one goal……to be first. The oddity of it all is no one steps on one another to get there. Instead your opponents wish you the best of luck before you step out on stage. Sometimes it comes in the form of a high five, sometimes a hug or even sometimes a tear. We all know how hard we worked to get there. Just to be in competition is not only esteeming but a victory in itself.
As a Fitness Professional competing is a new discovery for me. The journey in the last year has been amazing. From Local, Provincial, National, and the International Stage (The Arnold Amateur Classic), I found balance between career, family and fitness. One may scoff at this concept, but it does exist! I have the good fortune of having a full time career in what I love to do. Combining fitness with competition is a challenge and I learn to listen to my mind, body and spirit and honor them all to keep them in check. The balance is my advice for “newbie” competitors. Put yourself 1st regardless of where you place in competitions, after all your perception is your reality.
